On December 8, Manfred Thumm, internationally renowned expert and former director of the Institute of Pulsed Power and Microwave Technology of the Karlsruhe Research Center of Germany, Kätten Institute of Technology (KIT), visited CCT for exchange and guidance. Ding Qing, CCT Group Vice President and Executive Dean of SITTI and Dr. Yang Minwei, Dr. Zheng Zhu, Dr. Liu Xudong and other gave a warm reception.

In the exhibition hall, Vice President Ding Qing gave a detailed introduction on the company's technology development route, core products and future strategic plans and showed guests the achievements made by CCT Group in terahertz and satellites. During the visit, Prof. Manfred Thumm showed great interest in microelectronic chips and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and conducted in-depth understanding, and highly praised our achievements in scientific research. At the symposium, Lin Xiaoqi, SITTI external affairs officer introduced the situation, development and product development of CCT Group and SITTI. Subsequently, Prof. Manfred Thumm also introduced the basic situation of the Institute of Pulsed Power and Microwave Technology of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the Institute of Radio Frequency Engineering and Electronics and the Karlsruhe Research Center as well as their research direction and related applications. After the symposium, the two sides conducted academic exchanges and in-depth discussions, and the present doctoral students said that they are deeply inspired and benefited a lot.

For nearly 40 years, Prof. Manfred Thumm has been engaged in many fields of high-power gyrotron, electromagnetic field theory, plasma diagnosis, material processing, transmission line theory and experimental measurement of over-mode waveguide, high-power output window and achieved remarkable results and numerous awards. In 2000, he received the K.J. Button Award, international highest award in the millimeter-wave infrared field for outstanding contribution to gyrotron and its applied research; received the IEEE-EDS 2008 IVEC Award for Excellence in Vacuum Electronics. In 2010, he was awarded the IEEE-NPSS Plasma Science and Application Award and won the 2011 European Physics Society Plasma Physics Award. In 2012 he was awarded with the Heinrich Hertz Prize of the EnBW Foundation. In 2017 he received the Exceptional Service Award of the IRMMW-THz Society.

It is hoped that this visit by Prof. Manfred Thumm will promote the cooperation and exchange of scientific research projects between KIT and CCT Group. We hope that with the good academic foundation of SITTI and the joint cooperation with the schools will promote the application and development of terahertz technology in China.
