The 10th UK- /Europe-China Workshop on Millimeter Waves and THz Technologies (UCMMT) was held at the Liverpool Marriott Hotel from September 11th to 13th, 2017. Invited by UCMMT committee, Mr. Ding Qing, vice president of China Communication Technology Co., Ltd. (CCT) and executive president of Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation (SITTI) led a number of doctors attended the conference.
The UCMMT conference began in 2008, where the conference is held annually in turn by China and the UK / Europe. This year marks the tenth anniversary. The seminar aims to promote the millimeter-wave and the terahertz technology cooperation and exchange between the UK, the European continent and the Chinese, showing the development of millimeter-wave and terahertz. The 10th UCMMT conference was hosted by the University of Liverpool and provided a platform for scientists and engineering technicians from different fields in China and Europe to share the results of "millimeter-wave and terahertz technology research" and academic exchange.
More than 100 experts and scholars attended the conference including from the University of Cambridge, UK, Oxford University, China Southeast University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Germany CST Corporation, Ireland Farran Technology Company, Germany Rohde & Schwarz (R & S), British TeraView Terahertz and other first-class research institutions and well-known university research institutes and so on. Representatives had a wide range of exchanges and a heated discussion around the terahertz science and technology of the latest research progress, development trends, application prospects, especially in the terahertz wave radiation and detection, terahertz space technology, terahertz airport security, terahertz new structural materials, Terahertz system integration and application issues.
CCT team representative made a speech in the conference and the whole team carefully listened to the wonderful reports of experts and scholars, and actively carried out exchanges with the international scientific research institutions or enterprises which laid a good foundation for the future cooperation. During the meeting, CCT team held talks with Toptica Photonics, TeraView, Farran Technology, Rhode and Schwartz. Besides, they visited the University of Liverpool and had a profound communication with professor Yi Huang, chair of the UCMMT Organizing Committee and professor Yaochun Shen, chair of Technical Program Committee. In addition, they visited the University of Leeds and met with Prof. Giles Davies, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Prof. Edmund Linfield. They introducted CCT and expressed their hope for establishing friendly relations and cooperation with each other.
The meeting was a fruitful, with more in-depth understanding of the millimeter wave and terahertz research status, development trends and application of hot spots, and have the opportunity to discuss with the terahertz research institutions and foreign manufacturers to exchange international millimeter wave and terahertz science Technical research of major scientific issues and cutting-edge progress, which provides a great help for the future of China's terahertz industry development.
