On December 4, hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, undertook by China Communication Technology Co., Ltd., Academician Activity Base of Shenzhen Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen University, Terahertz Collaborative Innovation Center and Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation, 2017 • SICAST The 6th International Conference on Advanced Science and Technology and the 2nd International Conference on Terahertz were held in Shenzhen, China. Bai Chunli, president of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Rugui, Shenzhen Mayor, Liu Shenggang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liu Hongyi, Secretary of the Party committee of Shenzhen University, Peter H..Siegel, professor of California Institute of Technology, Wu Guangsheng Chairman of China Communication Technology Co., Ltd. and other leaders and guests attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Xie Weixin, former principal of Shenzhen University.
This conference brought together over 300 top terahertz experts and scholars in the world and provided high-end academic and industry reports by nearly 20 foreign experts from the United States, Germany, Canada, Israel, Japan, and South Korea, as well as renowned domestic scholars. The reports focused on the current international latest research results and development direction of terahertz science and technology.
Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the conference and delivered a speech. In his opinion, terahertz as a spectrum resource that mankind has yet to fully recognized and utilized, its vast scientific future has been recognized by the world. In recent years, China has made rapid progress in the field of terahertz science and technology, and has made a series of important research results in the areas of terahertz source, detection, terahertz functional devices and applications, and established relevant research platforms. The 6th Shenzhen International Conference on Advanced Science and Technology is an important platform for cooperation and exchange in the multi-party dialogue in the field of the terahertz region. We hoped that delegates would take this opportunity to systematically showcase their innovations, exchange in-depth academic ideas, stimulate innovative ideas and enhance synergies to promote the all-round development in the field of terahertz.
At the opening ceremony, Liu Shenggang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief academician of CCT Academician's Workstation, SITTI president extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the academicians, leaders and experts. He said that this academic conference was an important event in the field of terahertz in China and provided a good exchange platform for the research on terahertz science and technology even in the world. He hoped to promote the academic research in the field of terahertz through the platform of international conference, academic exchanges, and ultimately promote the application of technology, pushed China's terahertz science and technology to a new peak of development, making its contribution for China's electronic information technology and industrial development. As a newly emerging frontier, the technology of terahertz has gained the widespread attention of all countries in the world, including China. Starting from the 270th Xiangshan Scientific Conference held in 2005, the depth, breadth and academic team of China's terahertz research had been rapidly developed and a number of important achievements had been made. He invited domestic and foreign experts to further deepen their cooperation and jointly promote the development of terahertz and related science and technology development.
Terahertz technology was named by the United States as “the world's top ten technologies change the future,", and listed as “the top ten key strategic objectives of the national pillar”. It is a band in a special frequency range can be used in mobile broadband communications, anti-stealth radar, anti-terrorism, non-destructive industrial testing, food safety testing, medical and biological imaging and other fields. As the organizer of terahertz international conference, CCT Group is actively exploring and achieving many industrial achievements in the field of terahertz. It is the first company in the world to achieve three types of terahertz source and manufacture corresponding products, leading the development of terahertz communications, spectroscopy and imaging. Currently, TAI-40, the first active cylindrical millimeter-wave human body scanner independently developed by CCT Group, has filled the gap in China's THz human imaging security market. The self-developed terahertz time-domain spectroscopy analyzer has been fully realized.
The Terahertz International Conference is the highest level and most forward-looking international conference in the field of terahertz. It is a bi-year series conference, this is the second one. It has become an important platform for cooperation and exchange among the various parties in the world in the field of terahertz. The conference aims to bring together various forces to focus on terahertz science and the application of the latest technological achievements and explore the future development direction of the exchange of THz science and technology and the application prospect of terahertz related technologies and to promote the thriving technology and industry's vigorous development within the community. The Forum has developed rapidly and already has an important influence in the global terahertz field. It will concentrate on pushing forward the development of terahertz science and technology and strive to upgrade the level and international influence of China’s terahertz science and technology.
Prior to this meeting, president Bai Chunli visited the headquarter of CCT Group to inspect the research and industrialization achievements of terahertz technology. Accompanied by Chairman Wu Guangsheng, he visited the CCT Group exhibition hall and saw the first TAI-40 and THz time-domain spectrometer in China independently developed by CCT Group which were highly appreciated by President Bai Chunli. After in-depth communication between both parties, president Bai Chunli said that the Chinese Academy of Sciences could conduct more in-depth exchanges with CCT Group in the related technical fields such as terahertz. At the same time, he encouraged CCT Group to continue taking root in the research of terahertz technology and the industrialization of related products, making new contributions to the country's terahertz cause.
